Membership Classifications

There are five classifications of Membership:

· Affiliate Member

· Associate Member

· Full Member

· Member Emeritus

· Life Member

· Honorary Membership

These classifications are explained in more detail in the VOS By-Laws.  In order to become a Full Member of the Veterans of Safety, you must have ten (10) years experience employed in the fields of Safety, Industrial Hygiene (Occupational Health), Environmental Protection, or a closely related field.

Associate Members have at least five (5), but less than ten (10) years experience in these same fields.

Affiliate Members have less than five (5) years experience.  Many affiliate members are students pursuing studies in the Safety, Health, or Environmental fields.  In order to apply for an affiliate membership, the applicant must have a member of VOS who has agreed to act as mentor.  Written verification of such agreement is required.

Upon retirement from the field of EHS, members may apply for Member Emeritus status.

Life Membership allows members to pay dues in one lump sum, as opposed to annual payments.  With concerns of inflation, lengthening lifespan, and general uncertainty in today’s economy, Life Membership could prove a very cost-effective investment in your professional future.

Individuals who have shown exemplary service in our field may be granted an Honorary Membership.  This level of membership may only be bestowed by the Board of Directors of the Veterans of Safety.
